About 210 GWe of solar PV, wind turbines, reciprocating engines, small gas turbines and battery storage systems were installed across the world in 2019. We estimate that the global distributed generation will continue its growth reaching about 240 GWe in 2023, continuing the trend of moving away from large centralised generation. Electricity will increasingly be generated using renewable sources or by distributed, flexible power plants that use low carbon fuels, while battery storage will continue its growth, playing a more sig nificant role within the electricity system.
